Top Trends Expected to Impact the Future of AI and Data Science in 2024

The year 2023 was a milestone for technology, as significant advancements were made in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, data science, and deep learning. AI, in particular, has left its mark on the year due to its astonishingly rapid development and accessibility. With digitalization becoming more ingrained in our lives, data science has also had an increasingly important role in almost every aspect of our daily lives.

The speed and impact of development in the fields of artificial intelligence and data science have put companies of all sizes, large and small, in a race to keep up. As businesses aim to catch up with new technologies and optimize their operations, curiosity about the future of artificial intelligence and data science is growing.

ChatGPT was released in November 2022. Upon its release, it gained widespread attention for its capacity to offer in-depth and easily understandable answers in almost every field. As of January 2024, numerous AI tools have been launched. We can now create videos from scratch and dub a speaker’s voice into different languages.

In 2024, applications of AI and data science are expected to increase. But let’s further explore the future of AI and data science and see what the new year holds for these fields.

Natural Language Processing

Natural Language Processing (NLP) enables computers to understand, interpret, and generate human languages. With this technology, AI tools can automatically identify and produce words, phrases, and speech in various languages. Although NLP is mostly used for customer interaction, research, and translations for now, it holds significant long-term potential.

AutoML

AutoML, standing for Automated Machine Learning, is a popular methodology in the field of data science. These platforms accelerate the process by automating tasks, including data acquisition, feature engineering, conducting machine learning experiments, determining the most efficient models, and deploying them into production environments.

Deepfake

Perhaps the most concerning and easily exploitable development of AI is deepfake technology. Deepfake videos generated via machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies train an artificial neural network by processing the voice and image of people. So, it can create new videos that look quite realistic by imitating the person’s face, facial expressions, and tone of voice.

Discussions surrounding the deepfake technology, which can be especially exploited for personal attacks and generating fake news, are expected to continue in 2024.

Data Science and Security Concerns

Data security, one of the hottest topics in data science, will undoubtedly continue to affect developments in 2024 and beyond. The increasing data volume with digitalization brings along with it inherent security flaws. Therefore, how this collected data is protected is one of the important topics of discussion today and in the years to come.

However, there is a glimmer of hope. Thanks to advanced algorithms and real-time response technologies, AI can detect and prevent potential threats faster and more effectively. Thus, the advantages of integrating AI and data science can make the digital world safer and strengthen cyber security. Plus, AI-supported security systems can adapt to constantly evolving threats and provide up-to-date defense mechanisms.

To sum up, we will eventually experience all these trends and their consequences together. Our hope is that technology will be used solely for progress and development in 2024 and beyond.
